Getting away does not have to be expensive. Many items on list can found at your local Dollar Tree (General Dollar Store) or on Amazon. K.I.S.S.: Keep it simple sweetie. That's my motto when it comes to packing. Also, think practical when you pack. Pack items you know for sure you will use. You don't want to get there and not use half of the things you packed. Lastly, use what you already have at home. You may already have a flashlight lying around or cans of food in your shelves. Before you hit the stores or search online, look around your home and save time and money.
Also, check with the cabin company to see what items are already provided in the cabin at no cost to you. The company Getaway does a great job of letting you know what items are included with the cabin and what items are available at a cost to you if used. There were many items like kitchenware and bath towel sets already in the cabin which made it convenient and saved me money.
Everyone's needs and priorities are different when it comes to traveling, but I find that the following items are always necessities on my hiking/cabin trips. If you can't find them at your local Dollar Tree, I have included links to a few items to purchase on Amazon at your convenience as well.
Indoor/Outdoor Lanterns
They come in handy for any situation. Whether you are outside in the dark roasting marshmallows around the campfire, or need a small light while in the cabin, these Etekcity LED Camping lanterns are battery operated, small, but mighty. I love that it comes 4 in a pack, batteries are already inside, and they fit easily in my medium-size duffle bag.
Thermal Leggings
For those that are looking to stay warm during the cold nights in the woods, I highly recommend getting a pair of thermal fleece lined leggings to layer underneath your pants. I bought a pair of the Romastry Winter Warm Leggings for my trip in Shenandoah when it was below 10 degrees outside and my legs were so warm. They are thick leggings that won't bunch up or rip under your pants. I also wore them underneath my pants and snow pants when I went skiing in Massanutten.
Hanging Toiletry Bag
Space can be limited when camping or in a small cabin, and if you are like myself, you tend to bring your entire collection of face and body care products. These hanging toiletry bags are best way to carry all your products and keep them organized. They are waterproof in case of any spills and hold a lot! I bought the large Narwey hanging toiletry bag because of the size of the bag and the many pockets, but BAGSMART is another great brand with the same functionality.
Packable Jacket
It's always a great idea to bring a packable puffer coat or jacket. Whether it's the warm seasons, with the cool nights or the winter season with the warm days, I find it very convenient to have a jacket that I can fold down into a small bag. After many trips and washes my Orolay jacket is still very much in tack and one of my favorite packable jackets.
